WHAT IS ALKA PRESS INTERNATIONAL?

A publishing house which publishes the books of author/reporter Mark Weisenmiller.

OK, WHO'S MARK WEISENMILLER?

A reporter who has worked in journalism for over 25 years, in both broadcsat (radio and television) and print journalism. During his career, he has worked for all of the major news-wire services of the Western world. Currently, he is a Florida-based reporter for the international news-wire service, headquartered in Paris, France, known as Agence France Presse (AFP). He also is a contributor and reporter for a number of national and international magazines, "The Economist" among them, as well as a freelance non-fiction book reviewer."

WHO WAS CHET HUNTLEY, THE SUBJECT OF WEISENMILLER'S FIRST BOOK PUBLISHED BY ALKA PRESS INTERNATIONAL?

Huntley (1911-1974) is still the only major American newscaster to have worked at the three major U.S. broadcast networks---the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS), and, especially, the National Broadcasting Company (NBC). Beginning in 1956, Huntley teamed with David Brinkley as the co-anchormen of NBC-TV's weeknight news program "The Huntley-Brinkley Report," which was the first U.S. network nightly newscast to look and sound as if it were created by professionals.

WHAT WERE HUNTLEY'S NOTABLE JOURNALISTIC ACHIEVEMENTS?

Although he was a professional broadcast journalist for over 35 years, it's a bit unusual---but truthful---to say that Huntley is not remembered for "breaking" (i.e., being the first to report) any historical domestic or international news events. Rather, with his magnificent baritone voice, he was well known for being able to host, for hours, broadcasts of memorable events (such as his work with NBC co-anchorman Brinkley rpeorting on political conventions and Presidential elections). Huntley also wrote and narrated a number of notable radio and television documentaries. For all of this he was recognized by his peers---for five consecutive years, from 1959 to 1964, he and Brinkley were honored with Emmy Awards (presented annually to the best of American broadcasting) for their work as co-anchors of NBC-TV's "The Huntley-Brinkley Report." With Huntley reporting from New York, and Brinkley "covering" Washington D.C.-based stories (which he did by way of telephoning his many contacts in the nation's capital), "The Huntley-Brinkley Report" was the first successful co-anchorman nightly newscast in U.S. history. "The Huntley-Brinkley Report," which began in 1956 and ended in 1970 with Huntley'r retirement, also earned Emmy Awards in 1969 and 1970. Over 4,500 episodes of "The Huntley-Brinkley Report" were broadcast by NBC-TV.
